Grizzly Bear
The Coastal Ranges of British Columbia has the top producing area for Grizzly Bear in North America. One quick look at any record book will prove this. The reason for this is the dense populations and long growing seasons combined with the excellent sources of food.
We have both Spring and Fall seasons for Grizzly. This allows us to offer different styles of hunts for these tremendous trophies. During the spring we pursue the bears in the valleys feeding on the new green grasses after emerging from their dens. In the fall they are hunted along the salmon streams, in the mountain berry patches and in the valleys where they hunt moose.
We target only mature boars. The result of this is often trophies in excess of 8ft! Coastal Grizzly routinely square in the 8-10ft. range! During the Spring a large boar will typically weigh 600-800lbs. In the fall these same bears can weigh in excess of 1000lbs! Color phases can include any known throughout North America. The most common phase is gold tipped.
We hunt these in the classic spot and stalk method. The better shape a guest is in, the more likely he is to succeed as sometimes long stalks maybe required, those not up to hard challenges are simply more restricted to where they may pursue trophies.
The Spring hunts are by far the easiest physically, as most ground is covered using trucks. Short hikes are involved stalking bears and checking clearings in areas that trucks either won't go, or make too much noise getting there.
Grizzlies can be found anywhere, at anytime. Being persistent is the best chance for success. Hard work and luck are key factors to finding their trophy. Those up to the challenge of a physically and mentally challenging hunt can succeed and get a tremendous trophy of a lifetime.
